State of Green Business 2009 Report - A Review
Recently Joel Makower, executive editor and chairman of GreenBiz.com, and his team of editors unveiled the second annual State of Green Business Report. The report looks at data behind 20 indicators to find out how companies are doing in creating changes in environmental issues. It’s an comprehensive report with invaluable information for all businesses. If you haven’t yet, be sure to get your copy of State of Green Business Report.
“This year’s update is a mixed bag of encouraging and discouraging news,” says Joel Makower, the report’s principal author. “But on balance, despite a growing chorus of corporate commitments and actions, we’re less optimistic that these activities, in aggregate, are addressing planetary problems at sufficient scale and speed.”
The report shows that despite the slumping economy, green businesses have continued to grow. On the flip side, environmental improvements being made are still low, which is cause for serious concern.
Some statistics/trends I found interesting:
- Our continued love affair with our cars. According to the report the number of solo commuters has inched down from 77.8% in 2003 to 76.1% in 2007
- Consumers’ distrust of companies offering sustainable alternatives despite their desire to lessen their carbon footprint
- Our inability to deal with our e-waste properly and in a sustainable way
- We have decreased our packaging use (as slight as it may be) using less aluminum, plastics, cardboard and other materials per dollar of GDP
- We have decreased our paper use by 27% less paper per dollar of GDP over the last decade and increased the amount of recycled paper - also by 27%
- We are steadily increasing our energy efficiency.
I know how much work goes into a report like this, so I sincerely appreciate the efforts of Joel Makower and his team at GreenBiz.com. I look forward to what we can do with the info in this report NOW - and how this effort will influence the 2010 report.

I believe that one of the worst offenders of toxins in the world today is the chemical cleaners in everyone’s household. The BIG soap and cleaning supply companies have been pushing their poisonous products for decades. The reason they will NEVER embrace total enzyme cleaners is because they would have to admit fault.
There is a comany out there now just hitting the market that offers 100% chemical free and safe household cleaners that works BETTER than the hazardous ones at the same price. If you have not already caught wind of it yet, I would like to be the first to introduce you to it. I would love to write and artical about this product and send you some for your own testings and analysis.

Good little article and some interesting news. Things are going to get better and become more effcient with time. I have been green a long time, waiting for this great interest of today. I live in PA and here they are quite slow to move on it but its coming. It only makes sense to work with nature, after all we are made out of it! Great report to remind us all to keep working.

Green police should arrest all people who are using inorganic soaps to clean their body.Like smoking it was body’S NICOTINE. When chemical dyed on man made is worn 24×7 it pumps 23,000 times a day poisonous nano particals into body Aura and this work in energy level to block body metabolism functions. Just Born Babies are ones most affected . Unless natural arrives in all these areas Conciouse Souls are not going to arrive this planets. When in organic food is pushed in all this three operations work as anti/reverse energy system and mentally pshycho nurotic one becomes in quick a 3 successive years use. We are using them for 100 of years and blaming doctors that they can find no cure for disease in our body. Body is a source and it is like dust bin stuffed with all chemicals .
Students are source and they are taught taught and relesed out to earn dimes on the street .
It is true no much progress in green products polpularity need to be made on war footing urgency, all govts in world must pump at least a percentage to fight our real enemy. When mind is chemically affected it creates terrorists and pscho nurotics to fight them,that war has no end.
Every body seeks solution but guides and coaches are not there . Many so called consultant still sticking only to dimes and quarters,instead of alerting about products and consumers direction.
Cerative coaches for Green business /products and marketting must be university started and warrior of light released instead chemical science Phds. All Phds issued wrongly, classes must get cancelled. Academies is not away from humanity . It has played drums to evil minded Industrialists all these centuries. Stop, check and allow. There comes real progress to Green planet.
Since this is monkey work police is green police must be formed to stop use of in organics
Body food , breath, visual,smell,theraphy are 5 elements key to sustain life .We have sustamatically destroyed all 5 in human body.Teachers have the capacity to teach no ability to allow us learn and live in health. We search soultions in science as there is electric bulb to throw light. Every where else the theive is hiding . Policing is needed. Or convert a decade or so on expriment the academies as Police academies for green planet. Holding tails do not serve get to basic truths.
